About the Department

The Department of Chemistry at UCE-Pattukkottai plays a vital role in building the scientific foundation required for all engineering disciplines. Established along with the inception of the college in 2009, the department focuses on imparting essential chemical knowledge that supports materials science, environmental engineering, and industrial applications.

The department’s faculty members are well-qualified and experienced in diverse areas such as physical chemistry, polymer chemistry, and environmental studies. Their research interests include sustainable materials, corrosion studies, and nanotechnology. The department strives to make chemistry both engaging and relevant to engineering by connecting theoretical concepts with practical real-world applications.

About the Course

Chemistry courses form part of the first-year B.E. curriculum for all engineering branches under Anna University. The course introduces students to engineering chemistry, emphasizing chemical bonding, electrochemistry, corrosion control, water technology, and material science.

Students gain an understanding of how chemistry underpins materials engineering, energy systems, and environmental sustainability. The course encourages analytical thinking and environmental consciousness among young engineers.
